The final game in the Melrose women's over-30 softball league's playoffs came down to Absolutely Fabulous and Serena's, with Absolutely Fabulous—tied for second place with two other teams going into the playoffs—winning the league championship by a final score 5 -4.

Absolutely Fabulous players said post-game that they had a great camaraderie with Serena's team throughout this season—so much so that one player for the 'Ab Fab' team said that the teams considered switching team players to 'just play for fun.' Then they considered it a bit more, and 'nah', was the conclusion.

The coach for Absolutely Fabulous, Ellen Krechmer, has been coaching for Melrose Women's Softball for eighteen years. Krechmer has announced it will be her last season in the league.

"Why not a better time to go out—with a victory," Krechmer said.

Still, her team wants her not to leave.

"We won today for her," said Denise Murray. "We are trying to convince her not to leave."

When asked what they would like others to know about their team victory, they are pointed at their jerseys and shouted, "because we are absolutely fabulous!"

Still hanging out on Melrose Common with sun-drenched faces, smiles and laughter and with trophy in hand, the team Teal for Absolutely Fabulous were absolutely joyful.

Krechmer also said a great game was played earlier that day between Serena's and Melrose Glass, which had maintained the first-place lead for several weeks. Serena's was last year champion.

"It was a fantastic game with extra innings," said Krechmer. "The final inning gave way to a 3-point score for Serena's to win."

Now all teams must get ready in a few hours for the fun-filled banquet which this year will be held at the Fish & Game. Now they wait until next season to spar once again, always with fun.
